Coarse wool fibers from a mitten recovered from Castle Hill, Alaska, circa 1820s-1830s. Dave McMahan, a scientist with Alaska's Office of History and Archeology is presently doing research on the characterization of textile fibers and hairs from from the Castle Hill site. Dave's comments:

"The image was captured using the FlexCam MedCam and the StingerPro Video Capture Card. The image was then brought into PhotoShop for sizing, adding text, etc. The primary scope was a Wolfe MHTKC4 Trinocular.

The MedCam also provides good results on a B&L Zoom 7 binocular inspection scope by removing one of the oculars and inserting the MedCam.

The MedCam also provides good results with a Leitz Ortholux set up for reflected light.

My impression of the MedCam is that it is very versatile and, due to its size and light weight, can be adapted to a variety of situations. I'm working on an idea for using it to image archaeological excavations in the field for mapping purposes."
